The Two Faces of Seafaring: Above and Below the Waterline

Picture an iceberg. The part above the water is bright, impressive, easy to admire. But the real mass sits below the surface — invisible, yet real enough to sink a ship.

A career at sea is a bit like that. From the outside, people see the sunny ports, the uniform, the idea of "seeing the world" — the part above the waterline. But those who actually live this life know there is a reality below it too: months of separation, fatigue, and at times, loneliness.

At Faroys, we have spent years around this industry, and we think it is our job to show both sides. Anyone choosing this career, or already living it, deserves the full picture — not just the bright half.

That is why we opened two series on the blog:

Read both. A good decision comes from seeing the whole picture, not half of it.

This series aims to be honest, not dramatic in either direction — no glossy brochure, no doom and gloom. Just the truth.
