Shopping at sea is not always possible. Pack according to the length of your contract.
Must have
- Documents: passport, seaman's book, certificates, medical certificate, contract (with backups).
- Work clothes and shoes: safety shoes with non-slip soles, and suitable coveralls if the company does not supply them.
- Season-appropriate clothes: layers for cold regions, light breathable fabric for hot regions.
- Personal care items: toothbrush, shampoo, razor, sun cream.
- Medicines and first-aid items (see the health part).
Useful
- Chargers, plug adapter, power bank.
- Spare glasses.
- Headphones and earplugs: useful for sleeping on board.
- Notebook and pen: to write down what you learn.
- A small sewing kit.
- Something from home: a photo or a letter.
Watch out
- Do not bring alcohol, prohibited items or anything the company bans.
- Do not carry valuables such as large amounts of cash or jewellery.
- Check baggage limits before your flight.
Tip
On your first contracts, carry little but good items. You can buy what you need from the ship's shop or in port.
This is a general suggestion. Follow the list your company gives you.
