Most jobs ashore mean the same commute, the same building, day after day. At sea, the scenery changes — a Mediterranean port one month, a busy strait in the Far East the next, a sunrise in the middle of open ocean after that.
We won't romanticise it: most of what you actually see is a port terminal, not a postcard city. But compared to someone spending thirty years in the same office, a seafarer sees, first-hand, just how large and varied the world's shipping actually is — different traffic, different port cultures, every mood of the sea.
That is not a line on a CV. It is a life experience you carry with you, and no one can take it away.
