Good Sides 4: Work Hard, Then Actually Rest

The Good Sides of Seafaring · часть 4

In most shore jobs, you take a few weeks off a year and the rest is work. At sea the rhythm is different: you work intensively for months, then the contract ends and you move into a genuinely long period of leave.

During that time there are no calls, no emails, no "let me just check" meetings — work is completely behind you. That is something rare that most shore jobs don't offer: a clean, uninterrupted, long stretch of rest.

Of course there is a cost too: during that long leave you are away from the ship and the crew, and returning means adjusting all over again. But the "fully on, then fully off" structure gives many seafarers something real — time for family, personal projects, or simply rest, without half-measures.

Whether this rhythm suits you is worth knowing before you choose the career — read our hard-sides series too.
