Since we announced our eSIM infrastructure preparation, similar questions keep coming up in the forum and in messages. Here they all are, in one place, answered as-is.
"Will eSIM work in open ocean?"
No. eSIM connects to terrestrial mobile networks — outside the range of a land-based network, no eSIM or physical SIM works, period. Open-ocean connectivity still relies entirely on the ship's satellite system. eSIM's value is getting online quickly and affordably during port calls and shore-range windows.
"Does my phone support eSIM, and how do I check?"
Most mid-to-high-end phones released in the last few years support eSIM, but it depends on the model and sometimes the region. Check your settings menu for an "Add eSIM" option, or look up your model on the manufacturer's site.
"Will it be more expensive than a regular SIM?"
We haven't announced final pricing yet — we're still in preparation. But our goal is clear: something more practical than hunting for a local SIM, and noticeably more affordable than international roaming charges. We'll announce pricing here and in the mobile app as soon as it's set.
"When will it launch?"
We're not giving a fixed date right now, because getting it right matters more than getting it out fast. We'll notify you both on the blog and in the mobile app when it's ready — so we'd recommend keeping notifications on.
