Getting the Most Out of Faroys 2: Using Messaging the Right Way

Getting the Most Out of Faroys · Part 2

Applying to a listing on Faroys isn't filling out a form and submitting it — it's starting a direct conversation with the company. That's both an advantage and a responsibility.

Why does email verification matter?

You need to verify your email before you can send messages. The reason is simple: companies want to correspond with real, reachable candidates. A message from an unverified account carries no trust signal in the system. If you just created your account and can't send a message, go to the Email Verification screen first and request your code — that's the step people forget most often.

What makes a good first message?

  • Be short and clear. A company rep reads dozens of messages a day; explain why you're a fit in two or three sentences instead of a long life story.
  • Say something concrete about the listing. "I'm interested" is weak. "I have X months on this vessel type, and my availability date matches the listing" leaves a much stronger impression.
  • Keep your CV up to date. Along with your message, the company will check your profile — no matter how well your message is written, an empty CV weakens its impact.

Where do you track the conversation?

Every message you send accumulates in "My Messages," where you can track whether the company has responded. If you've already messaged a listing, the system automatically routes you to your existing conversation — you don't need to send a second, separate message to the same listing.

Note: only seafarers can message companies — a rule that keeps the system meaningful for both sides.
